     2007 Writers’ Workshop:

Fun for All

Saturday, June 16, 2007  Grove Hill United Methodist Church

The Writers’ Workshop sponsored by the Grove Hill Writers’ Club and the Grove Hill Arts Council on June 16 at the Grove Hill United Methodist Church attracted a bevy of writers from as far north as Tuscaloosa and as far south as Fairhope.  Their ages ranged from 18 to 80 years old. Steve Owens, adjunct professor of creative writing for the University of Mississippi, presented a discussion of how to write effective short fiction and how to pen good memoirs.  The group of 25 to 30 writers enjoyed his comments and the exercises designed to help them improve their skills.  Several participants remarked that they were going directly home and begin practicing what they had learned from Professor Owens.  The GHWC and the GHAC plan to repeat the venture next summer!
